Often time, people have a certain stigma about hair extensions. They don't want anyone to know they are wearing them or find it superficial. I am not one of those people. I love everything about hair extensions and think everyone should try them out! I have been wearing clip-in extensions on and off since I was 16, mostly for special occasions. This year I took the plunge and decided to try the semi-permanent tape in extensions. A friend (with beautiful hair I might add) suggested using Donna Bella Tape-in Hair Extensions.
High quality and lightweight, these extensions are said to last 6 months or longer. I bought 4 packages of the 18inch straight extensions in the color jet black/darkest brown. I had my hairstylist color my hair prior to applying the extensions.
Each package come with 10 wefts (about an inch and a half of hair). You guys - the quality is amazing. The strands are silky smooth and have consistent thickness from top to bottom which is difficult to find.
I won't lie, when I got my wefts in the mail I panicked. They were smaller than I imagined and were so fine. I was afraid I hadn't ordered enough. My stylist was going to attach them that night and did not want to have to postpone my appointment. Plus, I ordered my hair on Black Friday for half price and I didn't want to have to order more at full price! My stylist assured me it would be enough, so we went for it. Note: It is not necessary to have your stylist put them in, you can do it yourself, but it's a little more difficult. If you have the option, I recommend having your stylist do it.
The tape-in extensions work in pairs. Each pair is sandwiched together with an equal amount of real hair in between.
Like I said, I have worn several brands of clip in extensions which tend to pull on your hair. These tape-in extensions are so lightweight, I can't even tell that they are in. I love that they make my hair slightly thicker, but not too think where they look unnatural.
Want to know the best part? They don't have to be taken out everyday like clip-ins and don't require any special treatment. They are treated the way you should care for your own natural hair. That means not washing your hair everyday, using a heat protectant when using styling tools, air drying your hair, and no brushing your hair when it is wet. You can bathe in them, style them, and sleep in them. As your hair grows out, the extensions will have to be moved up but so far, I have only had to move one up myself and it was so easy. I purchased the Single Sided Replacement Tape and the Tape-in Bond Remover, which made the process simple.
I also purchased their special extension brush that prevents damaging the bonds. It also makes your hair silky smooth.
To prolong the life of the extensions, you do want to take good care of them. This means shampoo and conditioner with no parabins or sulphate and using a hair mask once a week. I love the Biology Colorlast Shampoo and Conditioner and I just discovered the L'Oreal Paris EverPure Repair Remedy Mask and seriously, I would buy it just to smell it. It smells like a spa and it made a world of difference not only on my real hair, but my extensions as well. I highly recommend it!!
So far, I am completely impressed with these extensions. They are so easy to wear and such high quality, you've got to check them out. Just make sure you get them on sale!
